Clear answers about AI visibility.
What AEO means, what our automated Scans can and cannot measure, how manual Deep Investigations work, and where evidence boundaries matter.
AEO and AI visibility
What is Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)?
Answer Engine Optimization is the practice of making an entity and its information easier for answer systems to identify, understand, verify, and use accurately. It complements rather than replaces search engine optimization.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO focuses largely on discoverability in search results. AEO also considers how answer systems synthesize information, resolve entities, select sources, and construct responses. Strong technical SEO can support AEO, but it does not guarantee an AI mention.
What does AI visibility mean?
AI visibility describes whether and how an entity appears in generated answers for a defined set of questions, engines, markets, languages, and research dates. It is always contextual, not a universal permanent rank.
Can AEO.METRY make ChatGPT recommend my business?
No. AEO.METRY cannot control ChatGPT or any independent provider. We do not guarantee mentions, recommendations, citations, rankings, or answer positions.
Light Presence Scans and Doves
What is a Light Presence Scan?
A Light Presence Scan is an automated, deterministic inspection of public website, entity, technical, and structured-data signals. It never claims that a live AI engine was queried. You can start a Scan after creating an account.
Does a Light Presence Scan measure live ChatGPT answers?
No. Automated Scans use public-web evidence. Live answer-engine research is kept separate in the manual Deep Investigation service.
What is a Minor Presence Report?
A Minor Presence Report explains the deterministic public signals captured by a completed Light Presence Scan. It preserves evidence boundaries and does not turn website inspection into fabricated mentions, citations, competitors, rankings, or recommendations.
How does the Dove Rating work?
The published bands are exact: 0–7 gives 0 Doves; 8–19 gives 1; 20–32 gives 2; 33–49 gives 3; 50–69 gives 4; and 70–100 gives 5. A Dove Rating inherits the evidence limits of the report it appears in.
What happens when evidence is incomplete?
Failed, partial, unavailable, empty, and timed-out evidence remains auditable but is excluded from measured metrics. Incomplete evidence does not become a scored visibility report.
Deep AI Engine Investigations
What is a Deep AI Engine Investigation?
It is a human-led, manually scoped investigation of selected live AI answering engines, with dated evidence, answer observations, screenshots where available, and prioritized recommendations. See the four-step methodology.
Which AI answering engines can I select?
The request form includes major conversational, regional, emerging, and search-led answer experiences. Availability, features, retrieval, and observed citation behavior differ by engine and market.
How much does a Deep Investigation cost?
A one-engine investigation is $115 and a two-engine investigation is $230. For three or more engines, contact us for a direct scope and timeline. Current automated plan pricing remains separate on the pricing page.
How long does a Deep Investigation take?
The typical timeline is 5–7 business days for one engine and 7–10 business days for two engines. Work begins after payment confirmation.
Does a Deep Investigation use my Scan allowance?
No. Manual investigations do not start automated Scans, consume plan Scan allowances, or trigger automated paid-provider accounting.
Technical discoverability
Does schema markup guarantee AI visibility?
No. Structured data can clarify machine-readable facts when it matches visible content, but it does not guarantee inclusion, citation, recommendation, or ranking. See Schema.org guidance.
Do robots.txt and sitemaps affect AI discoverability?
They can affect crawler access and URL discovery, but provider behavior varies. A technically accessible page can still be absent from generated answers. Google documents the roles of robots.txt and sitemaps.
What technical signals can AEO.METRY inspect?
Automated inspection can evaluate supported public signals such as crawlability, canonical URLs, headings, metadata, robots directives, sitemaps, and visible structured-data types. These are discoverability inputs, not proof of an AI mention.
Should FAQ structured data be added to every page?
No. Structured data should match publisher-authored content that users can see on the page and should use the most specific appropriate type. It should never describe hidden or fabricated questions and answers.
Privacy, methodology, and billing
Are investigation reports private?
Yes. Completed manual reports are stored privately and access is limited to the owning customer and authorized administrators. Read the privacy summary for more context.
Does AEO.METRY publish its full prompts or scoring formulas?
No. Reports explain evidence, scope, and conclusions, while proprietary prompt libraries, weighting formulas, analyst instructions, and templates remain private.
Why can AI answers change between research dates?
Answers can vary by provider, model, query wording, account context, time, location, language, retrieval state, and source availability. That is why evidence is dated and repeated research must document scope.
How are Deep Investigations billed?
They use a direct invoice from our company in Georgia. Submitting a request does not charge Dodo, mark the work paid, or start research before payment confirmation.
Are automated subscription prices changing?
No. Manual investigation packages are separate from existing automated subscription prices, checkout links, allowances, and access rules. Review the current options on the pricing page.
